Richard Stavis is stepping down as CEO of Stavis Seafoods, as the company takes on IMV BV, of the Netherlands as a major investor.

IMV BV is a holding company headed by Joaquin Javier Guerrero Riveiro, an Argentinian born fishing entrepreneur who also has extensive ties to Galicia.  Numerous subsidiary companies, some set up to own vessels, are listed under his name in Dutch corporate registration records. Michael Lynch, a spokesperson for Stavis, said the IMV BV person they are dealing with is Robert Wagschal in Amsterdam.  His Linked in profile describes him as an 'Independent International Affairs Professional'.

Florida Keys commercial fishing captain Ricardo Hernandez was arrested last week after a two-years-long investigation by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission (FWC). Hernandez, 53, is being accused of illegally dumping over 30 lobster traps along the reef.

The Alaska Board of Fish is meeting in Sitka this month, and is hearing a lot about concerns over Chinook Salmon.

KTOO, reporting on the meeting, quoted Federal Fisheries Biologist Jim Murphy, from Auke Bay Lab, saying “There’s a lot of concern over ‘The Blob’ but in reality the marine survival of chinook salmon has been declining for several years, even before the blob showed up,”

Global Fishing Watch Partners With NOAA to End Illegal Fishing in Indonesia
